For the festival Drugoe Prostranstvo (Another Space) in 2018 in Moscow we prepared a version of Georg Katzer's piece with Russian subtitles. But as the soloist Matthias Bauer got sick some days before the performance we decided to play a video recording from a concert performance of this piece as a substitute - with the live projection of the Russian text translation on top.

L´Homme machine (Man a machine)
Dieses Solo für sprechenden Kontrabassisten entstammt meiner Kammeroper mit dem ausladenden Titel: "Einige Ansichten zum mechanischen Menschen, vorgetragen von Julien Offray de Lamettrie am 28. Oktober 1748 in Schloss Sanssouci im Beisein seiner Majestät des Königs in Preußen". (2000)
Der französische, für die damalige Zeit erstaunlich moderne Querdenker musste aus seiner Heimat fliehen und fand Asyl bei König Friedrich II als Vorleser und Leibarzt. Seine Schrift "L´homme machine", voller absurder Hypothesen wie auch scharfsinniger Überlegungen, hat mich seit den 80ern zu mehreren Kompositionen angeregt. Für das Kontrabass-solo, das noch vor der Oper entstand, hatte ich Passagen aus dem Buch übersetzt und bearbeitet. Obwohl das Stück wie eine große Improvisation wirkt, ist es bis ins kleinste Detail ausnotiert. Lediglich die Live-Elektronik ist, da ich sie selbst spielte, offen für eine Gestaltung ad hoc (...)
The partly animated text projections were programmed in Resolume Avenue. During the performance they were triggered and controlled by SuperColider via OSC. Some of the animations are preprogrammed and run automatically, others are controlled by the sound of the voice and the double bass.
