Yellow Sub

exhibition

Yellow Sub was shown at the festival Randspiele (June 2001) in and around the Sankt-Annen-Kirche in Zepernick (near Berlin).
5 long yellow flexible plastic tubes or conduits were looped and knotted together to a kind of flower. A transducer (body shaker) was mounted on the lower end of each tube. The transmitted sounds - sine tones, trombones, tubas - were very low in pitch matching the resonance frequencies of the body shakers and of the tubes. In that way the tubes were excited to vibrate rather than acting as acoustic radiators. Due to different pitches there were also strong beatings between the tubes resulting in shakings of the whole sculpture.

Actually listening to sounds of Yellow Sub with normal loudspeakers or headphones gives you a wrong impression of how the sculpture sounds and vibrates ...
